THE FIGHT IS STILL ON!

Brothers and Sisters,
As the Senate passed the 21st Century Postal Service Act of 2012 late last month there are many employees who believe the crisis facing the Postal Service is now resolved. Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact of the matter is that before becoming law the House of Representatives must pass similar legislation and then both bills must be reconciled before the President signs the changes into law. There is quite a long way to go Brothers and Sisters, particularly with the dysfunction that currently exists in the Republican controlled House. As we have previously reported there are two competing bills in the House one with wide bi-partisan support with more than 220 co-sponsors (HR 1351) which is supported by the NPMHU, and the other, HR 2309, sponsored by Darrell Issa and Dennis Ross which includes provisions that would destroy our right to collectively bargain and provide management with the latitude to bust up the United States Postal Service piece by piece. I strongly urge you all to contact your Congressional Representative and demand that they support you and the Postal Service by getting behind HR 1351 and rejecting HR 2309. Your job and your future may be at stake. You can send an e-mail to your Congressional Representative by linking to the Legislative page at www.npmhu.org. Now is not the time to rest, the fight is still on!

In Union Solidarity,
John Gibson
